German-African Innovation Incentive Award
Research and innovation are the mainsprings of societal development. Many African countries have been demonstrating dynamic societal and economic development for several years now, and there is increasing German interest in cooperating with African partners. The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has taken this into account in its Africa Strategy 2014-2018 (https://www.bmbf.de/pub/Afrika-Strategie_2014-2018_englisch.pdf).
This year, the BMBF would like to launch the first call for the German-African Innovation Incentive Award (“GAIIA”). The award aims to strengthen innovative research in Africa, bolster its effect locally and at the same time consolidate German-African partnerships. It will be presented to an African researcher and his or her respective German cooperation partner. The award will be granted for an existing achievement and will make it possible to develop a follow-up project with which the partners can advance their research findings with a view to future commercial exploitation. The prize money amounts to 150,000 euros.
